Gov’t Committed to Swift Resolution of Land Certificate Issues Nationwide by Next Year
In a bid to achieve the nationwide completion of land certificate processes by 2024, the Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerate the resolution of community land certificate matters.
“We are committed to giving our best to complete it next year. Even if we face challenges, we aim to achieve a substantial milestone of issuing 6 million certificates. This implies that by next year, every piece of land in our country will have an official land certificate,” President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said in his remarks at Delta Sports Center (GOR) in Sidoarjo regency, East Java province, Wednesday (12/27).
The Head of State pointed out the recurring issue of conflicts and land disputes arising from the lack of certificates, citing that in 2015, only 46 million out of 126 million land plots were officially documented.
“During my visits to villages in 2015 and 2016, people consistently raised concerns about land certificate matters, land disputes, and conflicts. Currently, 80 million land plots are still left undocumented, with only 46 million out of the 126 million land certificates issued,” he said.
According to the President, a land certificate serves as proof of legal rights to one’s land which plays a crucial role in preventing conflicts and land disputes.
“If a land dispute issue is taken to court, having a certificate of ownership provides a strong legal basis for winning the case. For instance, if neighbors claim the land as theirs, you can confidently assert your ownership by presenting the legal proof, leaving no room for dispute,” he explained.
On that occasion, the President mentioned that the successful completion of land certificates has significantly mitigated the problem of land conflicts in various regions, while expressing gratitude for the successful resolution of land certificate matters.
“Don’t underestimate the issue. In a land dispute, owners are determined to protect their land. People would even kill for that sometimes. This highlights the importance of land ownership,” the President remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RIF/MUR)
