Gov’t Committed to Tackling Online Gambling: Minister

The Government is taking necessary measures to tackle online gambling, according to Minister of Communications and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi.

“The President has ordered us to tackle online gambling because it harms the people,” the Minister said at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Friday (10/13) after a meeting with President Jokowi.

Budi said that Ministry of Communications and Informatics has removed 392,652 online gambling content, consisting of 205,910 IP site content, 16,304 file sharing content, and 170,438 social media content from 18 July to 11 October 2023.

The Minister said that he has ordered cellular operators and social media platforms to block advertisements related to online gambling.

“We also work with the OJK (Financial Services Authority) and we have issued recommendation to block more than 2,700 bank accounts and 540 e-wallet accounts,” the Minister stated.

The Minister further said that Ministry of Communications and Informatics will join hands with law enforcement authorities regarding law enforcement for online gambling. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/MMB)
