President Prabowo Subianto discussed the development of the global economic situation, including the United States tariff policy, and the Government’s response strategies at a limited meeting with several ministers of the Red-and-White Cabinet at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (04/07).
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto pointed out that the Government has prepared coordinated and integrated economic diplomacy measures, adding that they have thoroughly discussed the negotiation strategies, which will soon be officially communicated to the U.S. Government.
“The President assigned me, the Foreign Minister, and the Finance Minister [to negotiate] on schedule,” Airlangga said to the press following the meeting, adding that the Government will state its stance by Wednesday (04/09).
In addition to the tariff policy, the meeting also discussed the Government’s responses to the global economic dynamics, including the rupiah exchange rate. According to Airlangga, President Prabowo will directly state the economic policy direction and the Government’s responses to the global situation on Tuesday (04/08) at Bank Mandiri Head Office in Jakarta.
“Tomorrow at 1 PM at an event at Bank Mandiri, Bapindo [Plaza], the President will directly address a statement,” he said.
Airlangga further stated that the Government will use the event, which will be attended by economists, investors, editors-in-chief, and the general public, to reaffirm its commitment to maintaining national economic stability amid global uncertainties through diplomatic approaches, adaptive fiscal policies, and transparent communication with market players and stakeholders.
