Gov’t, E-Commerce Community Designate 5 May as “Proud of Indonesian Products” Day

The Government and e-commerce community have agreed to designate 5 May as “proud of Indonesian products” day (HBBI).

Minister of Communications and Informatics (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate stated that the determination of the HBBI is part of support from the Government and digital ecosystem for national creative products, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“The MSMEs and national creative products must be facilitated by Indonesian e-commerce to increase domestic demand, namely domestic buyers and consumption,” Johnny said, quoted from website of Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Wednesday (05/05).

Johnny said that all parties can make use of the HBBI momentum to increase consumption of domestic products.

“Ministry of Communications and Informatics continues to accelerate digital transformation by improving internet infrastructure in all regions of Indonesia. We also encourage more and more MSMEs to join digital platform,” he said.

For the record, the determination of 5 May as the HBBI is stipulated in the Joint Agreement of Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Communications and Informatics, and the Indonesian e-Commerce Association (idEA).

In the meantime, Minister of Trade Muhammad Lutfi said the Government would provide Rp 500 billion to subsidize delivery fee, specifically for domestic products, in order to enliven the HBBI.

“We must provide level playing field and beneficial trade, not only for buyers but also for producers,” Lutfi said.

He stated that love and pride of the national products need to be manifested in concrete actions, and the simplest form is to buy and use domestically made products.

“We are preparing a National Movement which is supported by the Government to ensure that Indonesian products are well-marketed and there will be an increase in the transactions, especially at the end of Ramadan. I hope that the online shopping on the 2021 HBBI will strengthen the national economy,” he said.

The promotion of the HBBI on online marketplaces, which took place on 5-13 May, provides digital platform support for the HBBI, provides free delivery facilities up to a certain amount by the electronic marketplaces, and provide reports on the implementation of the 2021 HBBI from the marketplaces to the Government.
