Gov’t Ensures Implementation of Law on Sexual Violence Elimination
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (02/27) hosted the National Commission on Violence Against Women delegates at Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java province.
On that occasion, President Jokowi reinforced his support for elimination of sexual violence as well as observance of the Law on Sexual Violence Elimination (UU TPKS).
The Head of State also pushed for establishment of better legal umbrella for female workers, especially home-based female workers.
“Related to the current situation of women, in situation of conflicts, disasters, and as workers, prisoners, women often face discrimination,” Chairperson of the National Commission on Violence Against Women Andy Yentriyani said after joining the meeting with the President.
According to Andy, President Jokowi and the delegates of the commission also discussed the follow-up measures on non-judicial resolution of past gross human rights violation. The measures include national action plan on human rights, national action plan for overcoming violent extremism that leads to terrorism, and equality before the law for women.
“Furthermore, measures for strengthening the organization of the National Commission on Violence Against Women including the amendment process of the Presidential Regulation related to the commission’s organizational structure and the improvement of staffs’ welfare are currently being carried out,” she remarked.
