The COVID-19 vaccine is thoroughly tested before being approved and injected to human body, Spokesperson for COVID-19 Task Force Wiku Adisasmito has ensured.

According to Wiku, all vaccines, including those developed by foreign companies or domestic-produced Red and White vaccine, have gone through several stages of clinical trials before they are declared safe.

“The safety of the vaccines that will be available Indonesia must be ensured. Vaccine development is generally time-consuming and takes a long process,” Wiku said, Tuesday (6/10).

For the record, the Government has set the target of making the COVID-19 vaccines available for the public by 2021.

The Government is also currently working to completing the clinical trials of the vaccines, which will be injected into millions of Indonesians.

The clinical trials are currently conducted by several state-owned pharmacy companies in collaboration with foreign companies, including Indonesia’s Bio Farma and China’s Sinovac that are conducting phase 3 clinical trial process in the West Java capital of Bandung.

In the meantime, Indonesia’s Kimia Farma and UEA’s G42 are conducting phase 3 clinical trial with the target of 22 thousand subjects.

Indonesia’s PT Kalbe Farma and Korea’s Genexine are also currently in phase 1 and 2A clinical trials in South Korea with 60 subjects.

The Indonesian Government is also developing domestically produced Red and White vaccine. (UN)
