Gov’t Finalizes “Sekolah Rakyat” Program for Upcoming Academic Year

President Prabowo Subianto Monday (06/23), at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor regency, West Java, led a limited meeting with a number of ministers to discuss preparation to implement the Indonesian government’s free school program, Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) for 2025-2026 academic year, in great details.
“In addition to leading a limited meeting on the acceleration of the development of Sekolah Garuda[a special school for high-performing students in science and technology], President Prabowo also led a limited meeting with Minister of Social Affairs Mr. Saifullah Yusuf and related officials to discuss the development of Sekolah Rakyat,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in his statement.
Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) is an implementation of President Prabowo’s initiative, aiming at ensuring access to quality education for all layers of society. The Government is also continuously finalizing various supporting aspects to ensure the program runs effectively.
“The Government is refining the plan for implementing Sekolah Rakyat, which is planned to begin in the 2025–2026 academic year,” the Cabinet Secretary said.
He went on to say that various important elements to Sekolah Rakyat were also discussed in the limited cabinet meeting since President Prabowo wanted to ensure that every supporting aspect is thoroughly designed and ready to be implemented in an integrated manner.
“This meeting also discussed several key aspects of the program, including location, curriculum, facilities, infrastructure, and the student admission mechanism,” he concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/TM)
