President Prabowo Subianto hosts amicable gathering and discussion with a number of national figures, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (03/02).

President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (03/02) gathered a number of national figures at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, to discuss the latest geopolitical issues, particularly the recent conflict escalation in the Middle East.

Former Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said that President Prabowo delivered a comprehensive outline of the latest global issues. The meeting, he added, also emphasized the erosion of global order.

“The President gave us update and briefing about the latest global development particularly on issues that have becoming the world’s current concern, namely the war or the US and Israel joint attack on Iran. We discussed implication of the attack to Indonesia and the world,” he told the media.

According to him, President Prabowo also mentioned challenges faced by Indonesia amidst the conflict. He added that the discussion touched on impacts the conflict brings to the global security and peace as well as to the economy, including to oil and gas supply.

Hassan also said that President Prabowo highlighted the urgency to provide access for communication and a forum to transfer ideas with Indonesia’s national figures.

“The President sees the importance of communicating issues faced by the Government and the President to all figures attending tonight’s meeting. He welcomed all suggestions and ideas from the attendances,” he added.

Regarding Indonesia’s stance on the conflict, he stated that the conflict is a unilateral action without international mandate. Meanwhile, regarding the Board of Peace (BoP), Hassan said that discussions are still being conducted while taking the latest developments into consideration.

“We discussed the issue while still taking into account the latest development, could the war in Iran potentially weaken the position and mandate of the BoP? We will have to reassess and recalculate our position from that perspective,” he firmly said.

Also attending the discussion, were, among others the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, the 13th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Ma’ruf Amin, the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla, the 9th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Boediono, several former foreign ministers, chairpersons of coalition political parties, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Anindya Bakrie, the Chairperson of Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) Shinta Widjaja Kamdani; the Chairperson of the Central Board of Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) Akbar Himawan Buchari, as well as a number of ministers from the Red and White Cabinet.

For the record, by choosing the path of dialogue and togetherness amidst an increasingly polarized world, Indonesia reaffirms itself as a nation that remains calm in facing challenges, able to maintain national unity, and stands out as a constructive player on the international stage.
