The Government has pushed for the finalization of multisectorial energy policies in the form of Provincial Energy General Plan (RUED-P).

The RUED-P is expected to be completed next year.

“It is our duty at the National Energy Council (DEN) to formulate strategic plan and policies,” Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif said, as quoted by the Ministry’s website, Thursday (17/06).

The Minister, who also helms the DEN, explained that there are 21 provinces across Indonesia that have formulated the general plan as guidelines for developing energy sources in accordance with the potentials of the respective regions.

“Thirteen provinces have not completed their general plan. We hope that by 2022 all provinces will have completed it. Once the general plan is completed, we can review the needs, the existing resources and the implementation plan in the regions,” he added.

Arifin went on to say that as of 11 June, one province is in the process of the general plan registration in Ministry of Home Affairs, nine provinces have sent the regional regulation draft on the general plan to the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) and three provinces have drafted the regional regulation draft on the general plan but have not allocated budget for further legislation process.

The measure to speed up the regional energy general plan, he added, is one of the priority programs of the DEN for the period of 2021-2025.

In its implementation, the DEN will oversee and provide assistance in calculating national and regional energy mix and determine potential energy crises and emergencies in regions, he said.

“The general plan is expected to boost economic development and certainty of energy availability for investors to invest in regions,” Arifin remarked. (PR of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources/UN) (RI/MEP)
