The Government on Thursday (4/2) carried out mass COVID-19 vaccination program at Gelora Bung Karno Sport Complex in South Jakarta.

According to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who inspected the vaccination, the mass vaccination program aims to speed up the vaccination for health workers so the Government can immediately begin the next batch of the vaccination.

“Even though the community health centers and hospitals have started vaccination, we want to accelerate the vaccination process so that we held mass vaccinations for health workers at Gelora Bung Karno Sport Complex,” the President said.

In the meantime, Ministry of Health’s Acting Director General for Disease Prevention and Control Maxi Rein Rondonuwu pointed out that the mass vaccination for health workers is expected to be completed this month.

“We are aware that health workers are at the frontiers (of the battle with the pandemic). The President has ordered that the health workers be included in the first batch of vaccination and they must receive the first and second doses of the vaccine this February,” Maxi said.

Similar mass vaccination, he added, has previously been carried out in a number of other cities, including Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Bandung.

Maxi further said that the mass vaccination was also aimed at preparing for the upcoming vaccination with a larger number of participants, adding that the next batch of vaccination is expected to be completed by the end of April this year. (BPMI/UN) (RI/EP)
