President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said that the Government has set the target of completing the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project in Jakarta and the operation of the MRT in March next year.

“I want that the project be completed on time and the MRT can be operated commercially in March (next year),” the President said during an inspection in MRT Senayan Station in Jakarta, Wednesday (7/3).

According to the President, the MRT is a big project that Indonesia will be proud of.

For the record, the progress of the project has already reached 91.8 percent while the construction of the railways has stretched 11,314 meters.

President Jokowi also ordered President Director of PT MRT – which manages the project – to clean up the project’s heavy equipment that are still piling up on Jalan MH Thamrin as Jakarta will host the 2018 Asian Games in August this year. President Jokowi also does not want that the city’s main boulevards are dirty and look filthy because of the heavy equipment.

“The Asian Games will welcome around 30,000 guests. Jakarta must be ready, clean, and beautiful,” the President firmly said.

Also joining the President during the inspection were Minister of Transportation Budi K. Sumadi, Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan, President Director of PT MRT Willem B. Sabandar, and Chairman of the National Democratic (Nasdem) Party Surya Paloh. (*/ES) (EP/YM/Naster)
