The Government’s policy on corn export and import aims to maintain balance between demand and supply, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“Oversupply will cut the price (of corn) and discourage farmers to plant corn. So, last year we exported 380,000 tons of corn and imported 180,000 tons of them to maintain supply and demand,” President Jokowi told journalists after attending corn harvest in Gorontalo province, Friday (1/3).

According to the President, demand for corn in the global market will remain high as long as the commodity has competitive price and good quality. He added that distribution of fertilizer should also be improved to ensure that all provinces in Indonesia can get equal amount of the fertilizer. (UN/JAY/ES)
