Gov’t Improves Decent Housing Availability in Yogyakarta Province

In a bid to provide decent living for the people through an apartment construction program, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has announced it has completed five apartment buildings in Yogyakarta province between 2020 and 2021.

Four of the apartment buildings were made for educational institutions, namely dormitories for Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Center for Agrotechnology Innovation (PIAT UGM), Ali Maksum Islamic Boarding School, Mualimin Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School, and Yogyakarta State University.

Meanwhile, the other apartment building is for the state civil apparatus of Serayu Opak River Basin Organization.

The construction has produced 823 units of apartments in 2020 and 9,799 units in 2021.

“This is real evidence that the Government is present in providing decent housing. We hope to improve the life quality of beneficiaries by providing more decent, healthy, and comfortable housing,” Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said, quoted from the official website of Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Wednesday (30/06).

According to the Minister, besides providing decent housing for low-income citizens, university students, Islamic boarding school students, the police, the military, and state civil apparatus, the apartment construction is also expected to give real contributions to civil state apparatus’ work productivity.

For the record, PIAT UGM dormitory containing 43 units was built from September 2020 to April 2021 to provide housing for students and researchers of PIAT UGM. Meanwhile, Ali Maksum Islamic Boarding School dormitory with eight units was constructed in a barrack style from September 2020 to March 2021. The building is allocated for student housing to facilitate them in following the learning process.

Furthermore, a tower of 86 apartment units was built for Mualimin Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School from September 2020 to May 2021. One apartment building consisting of 43 units was also constructed for Yogyakarta State University dormitory from February 2020 to March 2021.

As for Serayu Opak River Basin Organization apartment for state civil apparatus, it contains 68 units intended for state civil apparatus who come from other regions and have no residence yet. The building construction began in September 2020 and will be finished in July 2021.

For the record, each apartment unit is furnished with a main bed, a bunk bed, a sofa, a cupboard, a table, and a chair. Each apartment building also has a multipurpose hall, a management room, and a prayer room. (PR of Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing/UN) (DH/EP)
