Gov’t Inaugurates Five Newly Completed Dams Across Indonesia
President Prabowo Subianto Friday (07/10) inaugurated five dams spread across Indonesia.
The inauguration was held at the Meninting Dam, located in West Lombok regency, West Nusa Tenggara province.
With a total contract value of Rp9.79 trillion, the newly inaugurated dams are as follows:
- Meninting Dam (West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara), featuring a storage capacity of 9.91 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 46.16 hectares;
- Keureuto Dam (North Aceh, Aceh), featuring a storage capacity of 215.94 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 896.39 hectares;
- Rukoh Dam (Pidie, Aceh), featuring a storage capacity of 128.65 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 700 hectares;
- Jlantah Dam (Karanganyar, Central Java), featuring a storage capacity of 10.97 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 50 hectares; and
- Sidan Dam (Gianyar, Bali), featuring a storage capacity 5.76 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 37.15 hectares.
These dams serve four main functions, including providing irrigation services for 39,540 hectares of land, delivering 3.6 cubic meters per second of raw water, mitigating flood risks particularly in downstream areas, and contributing to energy provision.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo reported that these dams were constructed between 2015 and 2025. The construction of these projects, he said, represents more than an infrastructure projects as it lays foundation for the sovereignty of the nation and state.
“Through these five dams, Sir. You have driven nation’s self-reliance in support of your Asta Cita aspirations, especially in food, energy, and water security,” the Minister said.
The construction of these dams highlights the Government’s commitment to expanding irrigation infrastructure throughout Indonesia.
In his remarks, President Prabowo Subianto expressed gratitude for the completion of these infrastructure projects, which required substantial amount of time, funding, and resources.
“I am grateful to be able to inaugurate the dams. However, my predecessors all deserve the credit. I always remind the entire nation to think for the nation, think for the people, think for the wellbeing of all. Think for our entire big family, for all Indonesian people,” the President said.
