Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi Saturday (09/02) invited all public relations officers to support the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on 5-7 September this year.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are all have a strategic role in echoing ASEAN’s optimism as one of the centers of world economic growth,” Budi Arie said in his virtual remarks at the opening of the 2023 Indonesian Public Relations Convention.

Previously, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi stated that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo would chair twelve meetings in the 43rd ASEAN Summit series.

“If we also add the bilateral meetings, this of course will continue to increase, so far there are already thirteen bilateral meetings. So you can imagine, Mr. President has to chair 25 meetings in three days, twelve of which are summits,” Retno said, Friday (09/01).

The meeting consisted of the plenary session and retreat of the 43rd ASEAN Summit, the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, the 24th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit, the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit, and the 11th ASEAN-United States Summit, the ASEAN-Canada Summit, the 26th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, the 3rd ASEAN-Australia Summit, the 18th East Asia Summit, and the 13th ASEAN-United Nations Summit.

According to Retno, the summit will be attended by 22 countries, consisting of eleven ASEAN countries, nine partner countries, Bangladesh as Chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Cook Islands as Chair of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) and nine international organizations as ASEAN partner, including the UN, World Bank, IMF, and World Economic Forum.

“We invite IORA and PIF since one of ASEAN priorities this time is a peaceful, stable, prosperous, inclusive Indo Pacific. So when we talk about the Indo Pacific, there are representatives of South Pacific and Indian Ocean Rim that we must start to embrace. And at the Summit, there will be cooperation between the ASEAN Secretariat and the IORA and PIF,” Retno remarked. (PR of Ministry of Communication and Informatics/UN) (GWH/LW)
