Gov’t Issues 2,929 Social Forest Decrees

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo distributed Decree of Recognition of Customary Forests, Social Forests, and Land Objects for Agrarian Reform (TORA), on Thursday (7/1), at the State Palace, Jakarta.

“Today, 2,929 Decrees of Recognition of Social Forests covering 3,442,000 hectares of land are distributed to the people around the country. Hopefully, it can bring benefits to 651,000 households,” President Jokowi said.

On that occasion, the Government also distributed 35 Decrees of Customary Forests for 37,500 hectares of land in 11 provinces, and 58 Decrees of Land Objects for Agrarian Reform (TORA) for 72,000 hectares of land in 17 provinces.

The President pointed out that the Government will continue to implement social forestry policy and agrarian reform to speed up asset redistribution process since it will affect the poverty and economic disparity, particularly for those living in rural areas and in forest’s surrounding areas.

“Asset redistribution will solve agrarian issues, be it between the people and companies, or between the people and the Government,” he added.

Details of the issuance of Decrees of Recognition of Social Forests are as follows:

Forty-one Decrees covering 7,888.02 hectares of land that can benefit 3,053 households are issued in West Java; 77 Decrees covering 34,771.16 hectares of land that can benefit 17,478 households are issued in Central Java; 277 Decrees covering 130,214.81 hectares of land that can benefit 84,394 households are issued in East Java; and 28 Decrees covering 18,102.40 hectares of land that can benefit 10,221 households are issued in Banten.

Thirty-five Decrees covering 189,815.56 hectares of land that can benefit 8,481 households are issued in Aceh; 113 Decrees covering 55,013.75 hectares of land that can benefit 13,257 households are issued in North Sumatra; 126 Decrees covering 187,297.45 hectares of land that can benefit 107,891 households are issued in West Sumatra; and 31 Decrees covering 447,091.82 hectares of land that can benefit 4,128 households are issued in Riau.

Sixty-four Decrees covering 32,500.92 hectares of land that can benefit 9,424 households are issued in Jambi; 58 Decrees covering 26,478.36 hectares of land that can benefit 6,647 households are issued in South Sumatra; 44 Decrees covering 32,710.47 hectares of land that can benefit 6,588 households are issued in Bengkulu; and 144 Decrees covering 78,824.38 hectares of land that can benefit 37,728 households are issued in Lampung.

Twenty-three Decrees covering 11,165 hectares of land that can benefit 1,290 households are issued in Riau Islands; 95 Decrees covering 34,371.83 hectares of land that can benefit 7,118 households are issued in Bangka Belitung Islands; 134 Decrees covering 527,433.54 hectares of land that can benefit 61,215 households are issued in West Kalimantan; and 102 Decrees covering 11,165 hectares of land that can benefit 13,324 households are issued in South Kalimantan.

One hundred and fifty-three Decrees covering 205,795.81 hectares of land that can benefit 18,293 households are issued in Central Kalimantan; 45 Decrees covering 176,867.24 hectares of land that can benefit 10,456 households are issued in East Kalimantan; 40 Decrees covering 463,341.17 hectares of land that can benefit 9,321 households are issued in North Kalimantan; and 62 Decrees covering 16,012 hectares of land that can benefit 9,357 households are issued in Gorontalo.

Eighty-one Decrees covering 35,118.76 hectares of land that can benefit 3,905 households are issued in West Sulawesi; 227 Decrees covering 276,571.72 hectares of land that can benefit 36,469 households are issued in South Sulawesi; 110 Decrees covering 186,100.60 hectares of land that can benefit 21,590 households are issued in Central Sulawesi; and 132 Decrees covering 76,273.30 hectares of land that can benefit 21,590 households are issued in Southeast Sulawesi.

Forty-nine Decrees covering 9,000.34 hectares of land that can benefit 2,052 households are issued in North Sulawesi; 79 Decrees covering 15,261.9 hectares of land that can benefit 55,364 households are issued in Bali; 91 Decrees covering 14,830.41 hectares of land that can benefit 10,273 households are issued in West Nusa Tenggara; and 158 Decrees covering 41,327.25 hectares of land that can benefit 14,675 households are issued in East Nusa Tenggara.

One hundred and fifteen Decrees covering 184,382.72 hectares of land that can benefit 24,270 households are issued in Maluku; 102 Decrees covering 129,636.83 hectares of land that can benefit 21,517 households are issued in North Maluku; 60 Decrees covering 64,686.19 hectares of land that can benefit 7,244 households are issued in West Papua; and 33 Decrees covering 81,063.69 hectares of land that can benefit 3,041 households are issued in Papua.
