Gov’t Issues Circular on Second COVID-19 Booster Shot

Ministry of Health has issued Circular Number HK.02.02/C/380/2023 on COVID-19 Second Booster Vaccination for General Public.

The circular was signed by Ministry of Health’s Director General of Disease Prevention and Control Maxi Rein Rondonuwu on January 20.

“As of January 24, 2023, the general public (age 18 and over) can receive the second COVID-19 booster vaccination,” the circular reads.

The second booster vaccination is based on the recommendation from the Indonesia Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI) stated in Letter Number ITAGI/SR/23/2022 on November 24, 2022 on Study Updates on COVID-19 Second Booster Vaccination for the Public.

The circular also states that the COVID-19 second booster vaccination for general public is carried out at healthcare facilities and/or COVID-19 vaccination posts.

“COVID-19 second booster dose is administered at an interval of six months since the first booster dose vaccination,” it reads.

The vaccines that can be used for the second booster vaccination are COVID-19 vaccines that have received emergency use authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM).

The following is the COVID-19 second booster vaccination regimen for the general public, including healthcare workers and senior citizens:

  1. If Sinovac was administered for the first booster:
    1. half dose or 0.25 ml of AstraZeneca
    2. half dose or 0.15 ml of Pfizer
    3. full dose or 0.5 ml of Moderna
    4. full dose or 0.5 ml of Sinopharm
    5. full dose or 0.5 ml of Sinovac
    6. full dose or 0.5 ml of Zifivax
    7. full dose or 0.5 ml of Indovac
    8. full dose or 0.5 ml of Inavac
  2. If AstraZeneca was administered for the first booster:
    1. half dose or 0.25 ml of Moderna
    2. half dose or 0.15 ml of Pfizer
    3. full dose or 0.5 ml of AstraZeneca
  3. If Pfizer was administered for the first booster:
    1. full dose or 0.3 ml of Pfizer
    2. half dose or 0.25 ml of Moderna
    3. full dose or 0.5 ml of AstraZeneca
  4. If Moderna was administered for the first booster:
    1. half dose or 0.25 ml of Moderna
    2. half dose or 0.15 ml of Pfizer
  5. If Janssen (J&J) was administered for the first booster:
    1. full dose or 0.5 ml of Janssen (J&J)
    2. full dose or 0.3 ml of Pfizer
    3. half dose or 0.25 ml of Moderna
  6. If Sinopharm was administered for the first booster:
    1. full dose or 0.5 ml of Sinopharm
    2. full dose or 0.5 ml of Zivifax
  7. If Covovax was administered for the first booster:
    1. full dose or 0.5 ml of Covovax
