Gov’t Issues Construction Workers Certificates

The ongoing infrastructure development carried out by the Government is a big job to take Indonesia to the advanced, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo firmly said.

The infrastructure development won’t have instant impact, President Jokowi said at the opening of the 2018 Indonesia Construction Exhibition and Indonesia Infrastructure Week 2018, and the Acceleration of Construction Manpower Certification, at the Indonesian Construction Hall D Outdoor Area, JI Expo, Kemayoran, Jakarta, Tuesday (31/10).

According to the President, the ongoing infrastructure development is also carried out in order to unite the nation by building inter-island connectivity and inter-area connectivity, as well as to open up vast job opportunities in the construction industry.

However, President Jokowi acknowledged that there is a big responsibility in infrastructure development. Thus, the President warmly welcomes the acceleration on construction workers certification program.

The President hopes the program will be held in another places and provinces, so that our productivity and our infrastructure quality can improve well and significantly

On that occasion, President Jokowi expressed his appreciation to construction workers, especially to those who became field workers in isolated areas.

“I have seen first-hand of their work which I believe is very heavy work,” the President said, adding that the field workers work so hard and utilize every tool they have in order to finish the constructions.

Furthermore, President Jokowi said that he prefers to stay and work at convenient place like office but he chooses to inspect every single construction site because he wants to ensure that everything is good and finished in good quality.

“Once again, I really appreciate the contributions of all of you who work in the field, especially those who work in isolated places, remote islands, as well as in the border areas,” the President said, adding that even though the construction is carried out in a small islands, the field workers still work with high dedication.

Regarding the certification, President Jokowi said that the certification is important in global competition because the certificate in an evidence of the workers’ skills. Indonesian workers, he continued, are indeed not inferior to the skills of other countries’ workers.

For this reason, the President assessed the distribution of 10,000 construction workers certificates was still not sufficient and he ordered the related ministries to distribute certificates ten times more than now. “Let everyone hold the certificate,” President Jokowi concluded.

Also accompanying the President on the occasion were, among others, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Transportation Budi K. Sumadi, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H. Laoly, and Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani. (FID/OJI/ES)
