Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Monday (30/11/) delivered a Government’s statement following acts of terror and violence in the Central Sulawesi town of Sigi.

The Government’s statement, delivered by the Coordinating Minister, is as follows:

The Government’s statement regarding acts of terror and violence in the Central Sulawesi town of Sigi:

The Government strongly condemns the acts of terror, violence and atrocities committed by the East Indonesia Mujahidin terrorist group, in this case Ali Kalora’s group, which is not a religious movement but a criminal movement, against a family in Palolo District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province that claimed casualties and injuries.

The Government also expresses deepest condolences to the families of the victims. The Government has met with the families and has also taken measures for recovery or trauma healing.

The Government has ordered the security forces, through the Tinombala Operation Task Force, to hunt down the perpetrators so that a strict legal process can be imposed on the perpetrators as soon as possible.

The Government has also ordered the security forces to strengthen measures to safeguard the citizens against the threat of terrorism and those who want to destroy security and order in the area.

The Government guarantees the safety of citizens in all regions of Indonesia, including those in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, especially after acts of terror and violence against residents in that region.

The Government appeals to all citizens, especially the residents of Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, not to be provoked by provocative measures made by several groups. This attack is not a tribal war let alone a religious war. The attack was carried out by a criminal group called the East Indonesia Mujahidin led by Ali Kalora and does not represent any religion. This is actually an attempt by several groups to spread terror aimed at creating chaos that can destroy our unity and divide the nation.

Finally, the Government asks religious leaders to spread messages of peace to the people because every religion is present in this world to build peace and solidarity.

In the meantime, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto emphasized that the TNI would support the National Police (Polri) in taking firm action against the perpetrators.

“Tomorrow morning, special forces will depart from Halim to Palu and will later be stationed in Poso, Central Sulawesi,” Hadi said, adding that the troops would support the existing troops deployed in Poso. (UN) (RI/MUR)
