Gov’t Launches Wage Subsidy Assistance Program for 15.7 Million Workers

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday (27/8) rolled out a wage subsidy assistance program for 15.7 million workers with income less than Rp5 million per month.

“The assistance is provided for workers who are registered as active members of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Workers Social Security Provider Body),” he said during the launching of the program at the State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (27/8).

“Today, the Government is launching the subsidy wage assistance for 2.5 million workers. We hope that later in September, the assistance for 15.7 million workers will be completed,” he said.

On the occasion, the President also reiterated that the Government has already launched economic stimulus, among others, direct cash assistance and direct cash assistance for villages (BLT Desa) each amounting to Rp600,000 per month, the family hope program (PKH), and electricity subsidies free of charge for 450 VA households.

Apart from those programs, the Government has also launched non-cash staple food assistance (BPNT) for basic necessities program, pre-employment card for laid-off workers program, and productive presidential assistance (banpres) to micro and small businesses for 12 million business players program amounting to Rp2,400,000 directly transferred to the recipients’ bank accounts.  (FID/EN)
