The Central Government’s presence in disaster-stricken areas shows the state’s effort to expedite on-the-ground disaster management and decision-making, President Prabowo has said.

The President made the statement on Thursday (01/01) at a coordination meeting he presided over following an inspection of sovereign wealth fund Danantara’s housing construction site in Aceh Tamiang regency, Aceh province.

“Let me express my appreciation. The majority, if not all, of the officials at all ministries and Government institutions had initiated to get involved. We divide regions and locations to jointly cross-check situations, conduct inspections, and identify issues. Once again, we are here not for sightseeing but to identify issues,” he said.

President Prabowo pointed out that Aceh Tamiang regency is one of the most heavily impacted regions. Previously, the President visited South Tapanuli regency to directly inspect the disaster management there.

“I apologize for not being able to visit all [disaster-stricken] areas, but I choose or am advised to visit places where important activities are carried out, although all areas are faced with great difficulties,” he said, adding that he has ordered the Minister of Home Affairs and governors that he would go to areas that have been greatly affected by the disaster.

The President also underscored that working visits are carried out to get hands-on information about the situation and needs in the regions, adding that all government elements synergize to check and inspect on-the-ground situations to make the right decisions.
