President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo during a Limited Meeting on Thursday (16/4) said that tourism and creative economy are industries most affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

For that reason, the President has ordered immediate three mitigation plans to minimize businesses losses in these industries. They are as follows:

First, the President underlined that the social safety program must be well-targeted, namely for workers in tourism and creative economy industries.

Second, budget reallocation for Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy should be aimed at labor-intensive program for workers in tourism and creative economy industries.

Third, economic stimulus for businesses in the tourism and creative economy industries must be prepared so that players in these industries can survive and large-scale laid-offs can be avoided.

“I am quite optimistic that this condition will only last until the end of this year. Next year, the tourism sector will rebound significantly,” President Jokowi said, adding that the Government should prepare measures to face tourism boom next year. (FID/EN)
