Gov’t Provides Rp50 Million for Affected Houses in NTB Quake

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo extended his condolences to the victims in the earthquake that hit Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province on Sunday (29/7) at 05.47 am local time.

“May their soul rest in peace,” President Jokowi told reporters after visiting an evacuation center for the affected residents located in Sambelia, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Monday (30/7).

President Jokowi has also instructed his cabinet to immediately give aids to the residents whose houses were affected by the quake so that they can rebuild their houses.

“The Government will provide aids in which each house will receive around Rp50 million and it will be immediately followed by Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency(BNPB), supervised by Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, as well as by the Governor and the Regent,” the President said, adding that the amount is based on the inputs given from the residents when asked about the amount of money needed to rebuild their collapsed houses.

“I just want to cross check. It is BNPB that determines the amount. It’s around Rp50 million people more or less,” the President said, adding that the damages vary, from minor damage, medium damage to severe damage.

President Jokowi added that the Government has also taken measure to rescue around five hundred climbers who are trapped in Mount Rinjani. “The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the BNPB and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) have already work to rescue them,” he said.

 

President Jokowi also reminded that Indonesia is located in thering of fire so the people must be to face every natural disaster that can occur, be it earthquakes, floods and others (SLN/UN/ES)(RI/EP/Naster)
