Gov’t Pushes for Accelerated Development of EVs Ecosystem
The Government has renewed its commitment to driving the acceleration of EVs ecosystem development in the country. One way to do so is by stimulating the realization of investments linked to the development of the ecosystem.
“Thank God, we have decided to accelerate the investment development of EVs. Currently, the one already in operation is Hyundai, and in the future, BYD and Wuling will join as well as several other car factories,” Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said after a limited meeting on the development of a battery-based EVs ecosystem at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday (07/31).
To attract such investment, Bahlil added, the Government is planning a series of comprehensive measures both in terms of regulation and incentives, including the value-added tax (VAT).
“Earlier, we discussed how to be competitive with other countries, such as Thailand and Malaysia. If we don’t discuss this immediately, surely we will fall behind our neighboring countries,” he said.
On the realization of the EVs purchase assistance program, Bahlil said that the Government will cut a number of procedures to ease the public in purchasing EVs.
“It is shortened in order to facilitate the community to obtain an electric motorbike,” he said. (TGH/UN) (FI/MUR)
