Gov’t Pushes for Disaster Resilience Measures
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (02/23) urged that all steps of disaster management be carried out in a disciplined and consistent matter so that Indonesia can have disaster resilience in facing disasters.
According to the President, being located in the Ring of Fire, Indonesia is one of 35 countries that has the highest disaster risks in the world.
“Disaster management must be carried out properly and systematic. The Masterplan for Disaster management (RIPB) for 2020-2024 must be implemented with full commitments and responsibilities. All steps of disaster management must be taken in a disciplined and consistent manner. Indonesia must be a resilient nation to face disasters,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the Opening of the 2022 National Coordination Meeting on Disaster Management held online from Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java.
The Head of State also said that the big agenda to realize a resilient Indonesia in facing disasters requires involvement of all components of the nation.
“The big agenda on disaster resilience of Indonesia must be carried out by all components of the government and all components of the nation. We have to stand shoulder to shoulder and optimize all potentials of the people to realize a resilient Indonesia to face disasters,” he said.
On that occasion, the President also expressed gratitude to all ranks of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPN) and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BNPD) for their contribution in helping people in all over Indonesia in facing disasters, including COVID-19 pandemic.
For the record, the National Coordinating Meeting under the theme “Strengthening Collaboration and Integrity in Realizing National Resilience in Facing Disasters” was held both online and offline from February 23 until 24, 2022 and attended by 7,000 participants. (TGH/UN) (AP/EP)
