Gov’t Reaffirms Commitment to Improving Teachers’ Welfare, Competencies

The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing education quality nationwide by improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening their professional capacity.

“Once again, teachers’ allowances have been increased; the allowances of non-civil servant teachers have risen from Rp1.5 million to Rp2 million, while the allowances of civil servant teachers are now equal to their base salary,” Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said in a press statement following a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (06/11).

The Minister pointed out that the Government has introduced a new mechanism for distributing allowances, which are now transferred directly to teachers’ bank accounts each month, highlighting the Government’s commitment to simpler and more effective governance.

“It shows the President’s commitment to streamlining bureaucracy so that teachers can receive direct benefits from the monthly allowance transferred to their bank accounts,” he said.

The Minister also stated that the Government is committed to enhancing the quality of education through scholarship programs for teachers implemented using the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) system.

“In 2025, we allocated scholarships for 12,500 teachers who had not yet completed an undergraduate program worth Rp3 million per semester. This program, implemented using the RPL system, is now entering its second semester, and Insha Allah, some teachers will graduate this year,” he said.

Furthermore, the Minister said that the program will continue in 2026, allocating the same per-semester scholarship award to 150,000 teachers.

“The registration process is still ongoing because we are still waiting for more teachers to sign up. These are [policies] related to improving teachers’ welfare and enhancing teachers’ quality,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/EP)
