Gov’t Rehabilitates Infrastructure at 52 Public Schools, 31 Islamic Schools in Lampung Province

In a bid to improve human capital development in Indonesian, the Government last year rehabilitated educational infrastructure at 52 public schools and 31 state Islamic schools in Lampung province with a total budget of Rp116 billion.

According to Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on 18 July 2018 at a Plenary Cabinet Meeting ordered the Ministry to accelerate the construction and rehabilitation of 10,000 schools across the country.

“This is a great responsibility. Ministry of Public Works should sharpen the program with a focus on capital expenditure so that the people could receive benefits. For that reason, higher output quality should be obtained in terms of spending the State Budget,” the Minister said.

Based on the Ministry’s data, the Government has rehabilitated as many as 1,467 schools consisting of public schools and 144 Islamic schools throughout the country. In addition, the Government will also continue the infrastructure project at 73 public schools and 6 Islamic schools with a multi-year contract agreement by using the 2019-2020 fiscal year budget amounting to Rp122.3 billion.

For the record, the Government rehabilitated SD Kota Gajah 2 State Elementary School in Central Lampung Regency from August to December last year with a budget of Rp2.7 billion. The construction included classroom rehabilitation, as well as developing school health unit, the laboratory, prayer rooms, the library, toilets, the school cooperative building, the canteen, fences, the drainage system, and the parking spot.

The Government rehabilitated SD Pekukurun Udik 1 Elementary School in North Lampung Regency from August to December last year with a budget of Rp.980 million, which included classroom rehabilitation, as well as the development of the canteen, the toilets, the schoolyard, and the volleyball field.

In central Lampung Regency, the Government also rehabilitated SMP Bumi Ratu Nuban 2 state junior high school between August to December last year with a budget of Rp1.42 billion, which included rehabilitation of the library, the classrooms, the science and computer laboratory, the toilets, the warehouse, the school health unit, te counseling room, and the teacher room.

Besides state school rehabilitation, the Government also rehabilitated and renovated several Islamic religious schools, including Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) 11 state Islamic school in Bandar Lampung City from August to December last year with a budget of Rp1,38 billion. The construction project, which was carried out by PT Shah Ghossan Makmur Sentausa and PT Intimas Mulia Konsultan, constituted several phases, including measurement and bouwplank work, concrete work, frames, locks, roofs, painting, as well as the installation of paving blocks.

For the record, the rehabilitation of schools and Islamic religious schools will be executed by Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing through Directorate General Cipta Karya at the Center for Educational, Sports and Market Infrastructure Development (PSPPOP) by referring to Presidential Regulation Number 43 of 2019 on Development, Rehabilitation or People’s Market Renovation, Higher Education Infrastructure, and Elementary and Secondary Education Units.
