Gov’t Sends Quick Response Team, Distributes Logistic Assistance to Quake-Hit Area

The Government through the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Monday (11/21) has sent a Quick Response Team and distributed logistic assistance to several locations affected by the 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Cianjur regency, West Java province in order to support post-quake mitigation measures.

The BNPB has sent 47 emergency tents and has provided logistic assistance including staple food amounting to Rp500 million.

Head of the BNPB stated that the Government also disbursed renovation assistance for affected houses that were heavily damaged and slightly damaged.

“The affected houses will be rebuilt by the Government,” Suharyanto said in Jakarta.

Suharyanto emphasized the importance of synergy among stakeholders so that disaster mitigation in Cianjur regency can be well carried out.

Based on the report from the BNPB’s Emergency Operation Centers (Pusdalops) on Monday (11/21) at 19.34 Western Indonesia Time, at least 62 people at Rancagoong village in Cilau district, at Limbangsari village in Cianjur district, and Cugenang district dead due to the quake.

Moreover, 25 people were still buried under collapsed  buildings at Cijedil village in Cugenang district, 79 people were injured, and the number of displaced residents reached 5,389.

According to the BNPB’s Acting Head of the Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari, people whose houses are affected by the quake are called on to evacuate to the provided evacuation centers.

For the record, the quake in Cianjur regency had caused damage to 2,272 houses, an Islamic boarding school, Cianjur Regional General Hospital (RSUD), government buildings, educational facilities, and worship facilities. In Bogor regency there were 46 houses damaged, in Sukabumi regency there were 443 houses damaged, while in Sukabumi city there were 14 houses damaged.

Abdul went to say that the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) will continue to collect data on the casualties and damaged infrastructures.

He further explained that the Cianjur quake also caused landslide that closed the main route from Cianjur regency to Bogor regency. (PR of BNPB/UN) (AP/HD/MMB)
