Gov’t Set to Accelerate Museum, Cultural Asset Revitalization throughout Indonesia

The Government is slated to expedite the nationwide revitalization of museums and cultural assets.
The decision was made during President Prabowo’s meeting with Minister of Culture Fadli Zon at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (10/12), where they discussed accelerating the revitalization of museums, palaces, and various cultural assets across Indonesia as an effort to preserve national cultural heritage.
“The Government is accelerating the revitalization and arrangement of more than 200 items of cultural heritage including museums, protected cultural sites, palaces, fortresses, and other cultural assets spread across Indonesia throughout 2026,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a written statement.
Teddy further stated that the revitalization focuses not only on improving physical infrastructure but also on enhancing information presentation and visitor experience, adding that the Government will transform museums into those that present the national history in a more attractive, educative, and understandable manner.
“Museum revitalization covers not only improvements in physical construction but also improvements in historical narration, storyline, and exhibition layout to make museums more informative and attractive to the public,” he said, adding that the revitalization includes digital technology utilization and interactive experience to attract visitors, especially younger generations, and strengthen understanding of national history and identity.
During the meeting, President Prabowo also highlighted capacity-building for museum management personnel. This effort aligns with the development of cultural, historical, and religious tourism, which aims to deliver greater benefits, including boosting local economic growth.
“Strengthening human resources’ capacity within museum management and the development of cultural, historical, and religious tourism serve as an effort to make culture a new economic driver,” Teddy wrote.
According to Teddy, the President stressed that preserving cultural heritage is an important responsibility; thus, cultural asset revitalization must bring sustainable benefits for current and future generations.
“The President underscored the importance of maintaining and preserving national cultural heritage so they are not merely a remnant of the past but also becomes a source of knowledge, pride, and inspiration for future generations,” he said.
The goal of revitalizing cultural assets is to make them more alive, relevant, and accessible to the public. This effort reflects the Government’s commitment to making national cultural resources a source of learning, a pillar of national identity, and an economic driver that delivers tangible benefits to the people.
