As part of this working visit to North Sumatra province, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo on Tuesday (30/7) visited Ambarita Field, Toba Samosir regency, to distribute 1,000 land certificates to local residents.

In his remarks, President Jokowi pledged that the Government by 2025 would complete land certification, including in Samosir Island, Lake Toba area and its surroundings.

“We have to issue land certificates to the people so the owners have legal rights to their lands,” said President Jokowi.

The President added that in 2015, out of 126 million land certificates only 46 million certificates were issued, leading to land disputes in many regions.

Therefore, President Jokowi set a target for Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning to issue at least 5 million certificates in 2017, 7 million in 2018, and 9 million in 2019, bringing a total number of certificates distributed until 2019 at 25 million.

“I am sure this year’s issuance will also exceed the target of 9 million land certificates distributed,” the President added. (DNA/JAY/ES)
