President Prabowo Subianto has called Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir to the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Wednesday (06/04) to discuss the upcoming implementation of the national transportation discount program, which is part of the Government’s economic stimulus package.
“Bapak President wants to ensure that starting early June, the discounts decided in the limited meeting can be rolled out for trains, toll roads, airplanes, and others. We are currently discussing a joint decision with Minister of Finance to carry out this task just like the previous one. Inshallah, it has worked before, so it should not be too complicated,” the Minister told the press after the meeting.
For the record, this discount program is slated to be implemented from June 5 to July 2025, aligning with the school holiday season.
The President, the Minister added, also wants the program to be launched as soon as possible to provide real benefits to the people.
“This is a good way to help ease the people during the vacation. The Government’s support for transportation has previously proven effective, with clear impacts on local economies,” the Minister said.
Regarding the program’s financial implications, the Minister went on to say that the Government, through Ministry of Finance, will provide additional financing support (top-up) as part of the stimulus, adding that Ministry of SOEs is also committed to ensuring that the program’s implementation aligns with the financial health of state-owned companies, especially those managed by BPI Danantara Indonesia.
“Ministry of SOEs will align this Government’s mission with maintaining our financial balance. As I noted earlier, there will be a top-up by Ministry of Finance,” he added.
The Minister also noted that technical discussions related to the funding scheme are ongoing with the deputy ministers and Minister of Finance. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/EP)
