President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has emphasized that regulations for controlling “niaga-el” or social media-based e-commerce will soon be prepared by the relevant ministries.

The President made the statement after inspecting the handling of the Regional Road Program (IJD) in Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan, on Saturday (09/23).

“These regulations are currently being prepared; it involves multiple ministries and has recently been finalized by the Ministry of Trade,” he said.

President Jokowi also mentioned that this regulation needs to be put in place promptly because it can have an impact on micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia and economic activities in the market.

“Because we know it affects MSMEs, small businesses, micro-enterprises, and also the market. There are markets where sales have started to decline due to the influx,” he continued.

The Head of State also stated that the regulations being drafted will govern social media and trading or economic platforms.

“It should distinguish between social media and economic media, this is what will be addressed soon,” he concluded. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (AS/LW)
