The Government has announced it is redoubling efforts to mitigate, prevent, resolve, and take follow-up actions to tackle forest and land fires.

According to Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD,  the Government has taken preventive measures; yet, the incidents keep recurring every year.

“Thus, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has called on relevant stakeholders to discuss the issue,” Mahfud said in a press statement on Tuesday (23/6).

According to the Minister, the Government in the last few years has succeeded in minimizing forest fires and preventing large disasters.

“The number of protests from environmental activists as well as from other countries in the past 4-5 years—since 2016—have dropped because the Government has prepared all measures to mitigate the forest fires,” said Mahfud, adding that the Government is also currently preparing joint efforts to deal with the upcoming dry season.
