Gov’t to Accelerate Establishment of Red and White Fishers’ Villages

The Government is set to expedite the development of Red and White Fishers’ Villages, as ordered by President Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono has said.
The Minister made the statement following a limited meeting with several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet led by the President at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (04/07).
“We have developed 100 sites, with 65 in stage one and 35 in stage two. It encompasses 100 locations in total, with development expected to wrap up across all sites by May,” he said in a press statement after the meeting.
The Minister also highlighted the management and human resources capacity development of the Fishers’ Villages.
“The human resources of the Fishers’ Villages are also important. This is one of our points of discussion with the President,” he said, adding that the Government has prepared to develop 1,000 more Fishers’ Villages throughout 2026, focusing on the Eastern Indonesian region.
“We will develop the next thousand villages parallel to this development phase, with a focus on Eastern Indonesia,” he said.
Additionally, Sakti pointed out that the plan to procure vessels in cooperation with the Government of the United Kingdom is currently under coordination with relevant ministries and agencies.
“The preparation, such as how many shipyards in Indonesia are capable and suitable, is in progress. We are analyzing it together. We hope that it proceeds quickly because we aim to have the project completed in two years,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/AW)
