Gov’t to Accelerate IEU-CEPA Finalization to Expand Indonesia’s Access to European Market

President Prabowo Subianto has urged that the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) be finalized as soon as possible.

“The President ordered that the IEU-CEPA be completed soon,” Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said following a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto and several ministers at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, Tuesday (09/22).

According to Airlangga, the IEU-CEPA has entered the document-finalization stage in English before the text is submitted to the European Parliament.

Indonesia will then proceed with ratification through the applicable mechanisms.

“We hope to complete the IEU CEPA materials in English so they can be submitted to the European Parliament. From there, we will submit our version in Indonesian to the Parliament (the House of Representatives) for ratification,” he said.

Previously, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs stated on August 22 that the IEU-CEPA had entered the final stage ahead of signing and ratification. The agreement is expected to expand market access, boost trade and investment, and strengthen economic relations between Indonesia and the European Union.

Airlangga also mentioned plans for European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to visit Indonesia in late October or early November this year.

“Commissioner Maroš has been scheduled to visit Indonesia, and the President of the European Commission has also planned to visit Indonesia around late October or early November,” he remarked.

Measures to accelerate the finalization of the IEU-CEPA reaffirm the commitment of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration to expanding export markets and strengthening Indonesia’s competitive edge on the global stage.

The Government is targeting ratification in the second half of 2026 so that the agreement can enter into force in early 2027. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/MEP)
