Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo talks to the reporters

In line with the directives of President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, the Government will soon announce thousands annuled bylaws that considered detrimental to the investment.

“The regulations should be completely annuled in early June and the Government will soon announce the annuled bylaws after June 10. The President is ready to announce it” Minister of Home Affairs Thahjo Kumolo said in a working meeting with the House of Representatives Commission I on Wednesday (8/6), in Jakarta.

Two teams, namely Ministry of Home Affairs and provincial governments are in charge of screening the thousands of bylaws.

Previously, the President has given a July deadline for Tjahjo Kumolo to scrap 3,000 bylaws that are considered against the law, detrimental to permit, and imposing several tariffs to the people.

“Don’t evaluate the regulations. Last year I instructed the Home Affairs Ministry to evaluate them. In one month, they evaluated only seven regulations,” the President said.

“If we have to evaluate 3,000 regulations, how long will it take?

“We don’t have to evaluate them again; we must eliminate them,” he said.

Tjahjo Kumolo also shared the same view with the President. The bylaws that will be announced are those considered detrimental to the investment, permit, and retribution. While bylaws that considered against the law and is discriminating will be announced later.

The Government must scrap the bylaws because there are so many problems in the regions that were caused by the complicated regulations.

“Those are the problems in bylaws only, not to mention the problems in ministerial regulations, government circulars and government regulations,” the Minister concluded. (Puspen Kemendagri/ES) (RAS/EP/YM/Naster)
