Gov’t to Boost Health Programs at Islamic Schools

Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Health, and National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN) have signed an MoU on Health Development and Health Programs Reinforcement in Islamic Schools, Islamic Boarding Schools, and for Premarital Couples.

The MoU was signed during the 2020 National Working Meeting in health sector held at JIExpo Convention Center, Jakarta, Wednesday (19/2).

“The meeting is expected to formulate strategic policies for the benefits of the nation, especially in national health development,” Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said at the event.

In the meantime, Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto stated that the meeting is a great opportunity to formulate strategies as well as to improve synergy between ministries/institutions, local governments, private sectors, and other stakeholders in supporting President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s priority programs.

“Especially programs in human capital development, including in efforts to reduce stunting and maternal and child mortality, as well as in improving health services,” the Minister said.

Terawan also stressed the need for a collaboration between Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, and the BKKBN to improve parenting skills at family and community levels.

The Minister also highlighted the need for coordination and synergy across ministries on women’s empowerment, 12-year compulsory education, child marriage prevention, community and religious leader’s role improvement, improvement of reproductive health for teenagers and premarital couples.
