Govt to Build 7 New Dams in NTT This Year
In the period of 2015- 2019, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is set to build seven dams in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, which has low rainfall.
Those seven dams will accommodate a total of 188 million cubic meters of water that can be used for irrigation, sources of raw water, power plants, and tourism.
Director General for Water Resources of the Ministry, Imam Santoso, said that those seven dams to be built are parts of 49 new dams to be built during the Administration of President Joko Jokowi Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
The total cost to build those seven dams is Rp5.9 trillion, said Imam in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Monday (8/1).
Imam added that four dams will be located in Timor Island, namely Raknamo, Rotiklot, Manikin, and Kolhua, while three others will be located in Flores Island namely Napun Gete, Temef, and Mbay.
Out of those seven dams, Imam added, the construction of one dam has been finished, namely Raknamo, while three dams are still on the construction phase, namely Rotiklot, Napun Gete, and Temef, and three other dams are still on the planning and preparation phases namely Mbay, Manikin, and Kolhua.
Raknamo Dam, whose groundbreaking ceremony was led by President Joko Jokowi Widodo on 20 December 2014 will be inaugurated by the President on 9 January 2018.
The completion of the Dam is 13 months faster than the initial target, which is January 2019, Imam said.
According to Imam, the faster construction is made possible because of the smooth process of land acquisition due to the full support from the people in the province, good condition of the roads that facilitate mobilization of heavy machines and workers that can work three shifts in a day.
Upon the completion of Raknamo Dam, the construction of Rotiklot Dam, with the capacity of 3.2 million cubic meters is expected to be completed in March 2018 or eight months faster than the initial schedule.
Rotiklot Dam is located in Atambua in Belu Regency. The capacity is relatively small because the region is very dry, Imam said.
Meanwhile, Napun Gete Dam, with the capacity of 6.9 million cubic meters, is expected to be finished in 2020, while Temef Dam with the capacity of accommodating 56 million cubic meters is expected to be completed in 2022.
Besides building dams, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is also set to build embankment in East Nusa Tenggara Province. In the period of 2015-2017, the Ministry built embankments in 288 locations with the total cost of Rp665.2 billion.
In 2015, the Ministry built embankments in 136 locations with the total cost of Rp245.6 billion, while in 2016 the Ministry built embankments in 101 locations with the total costs of Rp257.8 billion. Last year, the Ministry built embankments in 27 locations with the total costs of Rp129.5 billion. In the meantime, this year the Ministry will continue the construction of embankments in 24 locations with the total costs of Rp32.04 billion.
The Ministry is also geared to realize program of the provision and management of air groundwater and raw water through the construction of 278 deep wells with the total cost of Rp256.08 billion.
In 2015, the Ministry built 52 deep wells with the total cost of Rp34.1 billion, while in 2016 the Ministry built 81 deep wells with the total cost of Rp45.3 billion. Last year, the Ministry built 75 deep wells with the total capacity of Rp97.6 billion. In 2018, the Ministry is set to build 70 deep wells with the total cost of Rp78.6 billion.
