In a bid to provide raw water and flood management in New Capital of Nusantara (IKN), the Government through Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing is speeding up the construction of Sepaku Semoi Dam in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan province.

The construction work is expected to be completed by 2023 and the first impounding of the dam will be carried out in mid-2023.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Friday (04/22), said that Sepaku Semoi Dam will be able to provide raw water for the IKN until 2030. In the future, the Ministry will also build other two dams, namely Batu Lepek and Selamayu Dams and will come out with the design of drainage system as flood management in the IKN.

The Minister went on to say that the dam which has an inundation area of 280 hectares and can accommodate 10.6 million cubic meters was initially planned to provide raw water to Balikpapan city. Now, to support capital relocation the dam is also expected to provide raw water supply to the IKN with a flow rate of 2,500 liters per second and to reduce flood by 55 percent.

To date, the construction progress of Sepaku Semoi Dam with a contract value of Rp556 billion has reached 45 percent. (PR of Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing/UN) (RAS/MMB)
