President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has promised to consider the proposals submitted by the President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Labor Unions (KSPSI) Andi Gani and the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Labor Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal to review the premium increase of Social Security Provider Body for the Health (BPJS Kesehatan), particularly for the 3rd class insurance plan.

“We will reconsider (the options), we must calculate (the options),” the President told the journalist after the meeting with the KSPSI President Andi Gani and the KSPI President Said Iqbal at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Monday (30/9).

The President went on to say that there will be large deficit if the Government does not raise the BPJS premium. “We must calculate everything,” he added.

President Jokowi also said that he has discussed with Andi Gani and Said Iqbal the measures to develop a good investment climate as well as all matters related to employment.

In the meantime, the President of the KSPSI Andi Gani said that the KSPSI and the KSPI have delivered input for the Government on labor law amendment as well as on the Task Force related to Government Regulation (PP) Number 78 of 2015 on Wages.

“We also ask the Government to review the BPJS Kesehatan premium increase for the 3rd class plan because it will affect workers and the people,” Andi Gani explained.

On that occasion, Said Iqbal said that the BPJS Kesehatan premium increase for the 3rd class plan would burden the people and reduce their purchasing power. Therefore, both KSPSI and KSPI have asked the President not to raise the premium for the 3rd class plan. (MAY/JAY/ES)
