After focusing on infrastructure development over the last three years, in 2019 the Government will focus on human resources development. The State Budget will also prioritize this field.

Regarding this issue, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo explained that the Government will establish a National Research Agency whose role will dominate (around 70%-80%) the universities.

“By establishing the National Research Agency, budget for research will be transparent; what are the results and outcomes,” said President Jokowi when delivering his remarks at a meeting with Heads of State Universities, echelon I and echelon II officials, as well as Head of Higher Education Services Office of Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Education, at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/10) .

Comparing with the current condition, the President explained that although the State Budget has allocated Rp 600 – 800 billion for research, the results are not satisfactory.

“There is something that must be fixed,” said President Jokowi.

Accompanying President Jokowi on the occasion were Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and Minister of Research and Technology and Higher Education M. Nasir. (MAY / DNS / ES) (STU/MMB/Naster)
