Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that the issue of legislation is very important and will be handled by the Government in the future.

He also expressed hope that a single government legislation agency can be formed after the 2019 Presidential Election.

“I am sure that (the Government legislation agency) will be established after the 2019 Presidential Election,” Cabinet Secretary told journalists after the National Seminar on Legal Reforms at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (28/11).

Pramono also dismissed the notion that the Government would not dare to form a single legislation agency, saying that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is brave to do everything to serve the national interests. “The President has even instructed Minister of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reforms to dissolve some Government agencies and commissions,” Pramono said.

Pramono went on to say that the proposed amendment to Law Number 12 of 2011 on the Establishment of Law Regulations has been listed in the 2019 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).

Regarding the results of the Seminar, Pramono stated that Indonesia has many overlapping laws and regulations (from the Laws, Presidential Regulations, to Municipal Regulations) so a single legislation agency is needed to handle everything related to legislation.

“Whoever the next President will be, the regulations should help the President and the Government to make decisions,” Pramono said, adding that President Jokowi repeatedly says that in the future the main challenge is how to develop faster than other nations.

The legislation should not be an obstacle for development, but it should support the President and the Government, Pramono concluded. (SDV/GUN/RAH/ES)
