Gov’t to Evacuate 74 Indonesian Crew Members on Diamond Princess Cruise
In a bid to prepare for the evacuation and observation process of 74 Indonesian crew members of Diamond Princess cruise ship who have been declared negative for COVID-19, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy held a coordination meeting with a number of ministers and other relevant parties in Jakarta, Thursday (20/2).
According to Muhadjir, there are several evacuation plans to be considered and they are still waiting for President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s directives. Some of the plans are to send the Dr. Soeharso Hospital Ship to pick up the crew members or to evacuate them by plane.
“If we have received the President’s directives, I will explain the plans in more detail,” the Minister said.
The Government is fully committed to evacuating the crew as soon as possible. “We will follow the procedure laid down by the World Health Organization,” he added.
In the meantime, four Indonesian citizens who were tested positive for COVID-19 will be excluded from the repatriation.
For the record, two of them are receiving treatment at a hospital in Chiba while the other two crew members are hospitalized in Tokyo. (Humas Kemenko PMK/EN)
