Gov’t to Expand “Sea Toll” Program
The Government seeks to expand the “Sea Toll” Program to bring more benefit for the people, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B. Pandjaitan has said.
“The Government will also provide more tax allowance and tax holiday for industries that are built in the eastern part of Indonesia to meet the needs of people there. (The policy) aims to reduce freight transport from Java and minimize the cost,” Luhut said during a press conference after attending a Limited Cabinet Meeting on the Acceleration of Sea Toll Program in the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Thursday (5/3).
The President, Luhut added, had decided that the tax allowance and tax holiday would be provided to industries built in the eastern part of Indonesia.
“(The policy) aims to reduce freight transport from the western part of Indonesia. This year, the subsidy (for supporting the policy) is approximately Rp400 billion,” he said, adding that the subsidy is provided not only for port to port freight transport but also for the distribution to the recipients.
“The process of distribution will be conducted by at least two or three companies to prevent a monopoly,” Luhut said at the end of his press conference. (FID/EN)
