Gov’t to Expedite Development in Border Areas
The Government has shifted the paradigm of border areas from vulnerable areas that need to be guarded to those that need to be developed immediately.
This is mandated in Law Number 43 of 2008 on State Territories and in accordance with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s Nawacita (nine point development plan).
The statement was made by acting Secretary of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) Suhajar in a thematic forum of Public Relations Coordinating Board (Bakohumas) with a theme of Safeguarding the Red and White House in Border Areas, at the Oasis Amir Hotel, Jakarta, Monday (30/9).
The shift, continued Suhajar, has also brought effects on carrying out the function of the State Cross Border Post (PLBN), which so far has more functions for security.
“The PLBNs are now tasked to eliminate isolation and build basic service infrastructure in border areas, to ensure that the Government service infrastructure is well implemented, and to increase the people’s capacity so that they have greater competitiveness,” Suhajar said.
Suhajar expressed hopes that Public Relations officials from ministry/institutions can assist the BNPP. “We have fewer publications (on border areas development), so I encourage the BNPP Public Relations to immediately disseminate this to the public,” he said. (AIT/HEN/ES)
