Gov’t to Expedite National Solar Power Plant Development

Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry and Head of Sovereign Wealth Fund Danantara Rosan Roeslani delivers a press statement in Jakarta on Thursday (03/05).

In a bid to achieve energy self-sufficiency, the Government is set to expedite the nationwide development of solar power plants, aiming to achieve a capacity of 100 gigawatts.

Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry and Head of Sovereign Wealth Fund Danantara Rosan Roeslani made the statement following a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (03/05).

“Actually, [it is carried out] in all villages, but regions with existing distribution systems are prioritized. The initial proposal is to achieve 13 of 100 gigawatts, so out of 100 gigawatts, we will prioritize to achieve 13 gigawatts,” he said in his press statement.

According to Rosan, the Government has recorded investments in the domestic solar power industry ecosystem, including 1.4 billion US dollars in factory development.

“The factory accounts for 50 gigawatts. We have also received investments, and it will be completed by the end of the year. It will help us use our local products for the solar farm project,” he said.

Furthermore, Rosan stated that Danantara has developed a 1-megawatt solar power plant prototype in Sumenep regency.

“The prototype will be reviewed and examined by the team from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology before it is rolled out,” he said.

Rosan also said that the President pushed to accelerate the development of solar power plants through various funding schemes and ordered Danantara to observe and examine the structure shortly.

“We will cooperate with domestic parties and private companies that have the technology and capacity in terms of solar power plants and their batteries,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/LW)
