As many as 80 million parcels of land in Indonesia have not been certified, President Joko “Widodo” Widodo has said.

The President added that out of 125 million parcels of land to be certified by 2015, only 40 million of them are already certified.

“There are 20 million parcels of land to be certified in Central Java province alone, but we have so far only issued 12 million certificates. The remaining 8 million must be certified,” President Jokowi said when symbolically distributing 3,800 land certificates to residents in Purworejo Regency, Central Java, Thursday (29/8).

On that occasion, the President also reminded the people who received the certificates to be grateful because land certificate is a legal proof of property ownership for every citizen.

“If one day, there is someone who claims (to own your property), you can see that in the certificate the name of the owner, location, and area of land are stated; thus, they cannot take it since certificate is a legal proof of property ownership,” President Jokowi said.

The President went on to say that the Government used to issue 500,000 to 600,000 land certificates each year, but this year it has significantly increased to 9 million because all parcels of land in Indonesia must be certified by 2025. (RSF/ES)
