Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has announced it will open employment through regular and cash labor-intensive projects.

“On job creation, we designed a labor-intensive project with a budget of Rp 11.6 trillion,” Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said after a limited Meeting, Jakarta, Friday (29/5).

The project will require workers to work on irrigation networks maintenance, flood control, drainage in urban and rural areas, rural infrastructure, Community Based Drinking Water Supply, and Sanitation (Pamsimas).

“Some projects are running with a total absorption of around 595,000 workers, with  30 to 100 days length of work per person, specifically for cash labor-intensive work,” Basuki said.

Furthermore, the Ministry also created more job opportunities for regular works such as dams and highway development as well as irrigation rehabilitation.

“On primary irrigation, we ask that for the next 1-2 months, only human resources will be utilized,” the Minister said, adding that there will be 2,865 locations in need of human resources including irrigation and other projects in the Ministry.

Through the works in 2,865 locations, the Ministry has absorbed around 78,000 more people.

The Minister stated that the Ministry agreed to delay project completion in order to open more employment. (FID/EN)
