President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo chaired a limited meeting on organization of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) placement, on Wednesday (08/02) at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

“Actually, we already have Law Number 18 of 2017, but we will review it to organize the placement.” said Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah after attending the meeting.

She went on to say that PMI placement includes their departure, their placement in the destination country, and their return to homeland.

President Jokowi requested Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs to review the placement organization within two weeks, and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs to ensure its law enforcement.

“We hope that each region carries out its duties as stated in Law Number 18 of 2017. So, Minister of Home Affairs and I agree to hold coordinating meetings involving the regional governments,” Minister of Manpower said.

Ida also expressed hope that by improving the organization of PMI placement, the protection for Indonesian migrant workers will be better. (FID/UN)(AW/MUR)
