The Government is drafting Government Regulation to provide halal certification for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said in Bekasi, West Java, Sunday (3/3).

“Street food vendors have requested halal certification (for their product),” the President said.

The President went on to say that the Government Regulation will stipulate that halal certification process for the MSMEs will take only one day and will be free of charge.

President Jokowi further said that the drafting process of Government Regulation is underway and the Government will pay attention to every specific issue related to small and micro businesses to avoid any problems in the future.

For the record, the Government Regulation is based on Law Number 33 of 2014 on Halal Certification. The Law stipulates that every request for, or extension of, halal certificate shall be carried out by Halal Product Supervision Agency (BPJPH) and the Government should provide specific regulation on halal certification.
